Yobe: Police say four hostages freed in Fika

The police command in Yobe says it freed four girls following an attempted kidnapping in the Fika council area.
The command’s spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, said in a statement on Monday that bandits attacked and abducted the girls in Didim village on Sunday at about 2:23 p.m.
“On 28th June, 2026, at about 1423hrs, Fika Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call reporting that unidentified persons attacked and abducted four young females at Didim Village, Fika area,” he said.
According to him, the victims, all females and minors, were between the ages of 15 and 17.
“Upon receiving the report, police operatives attached to Kukar Gadu Outstation, in collaboration with local vigilantes, swiftly mobilised and launched a rescue operation. Reinforcement from the Division was deployed, leading to the successful rescue of all four victims unhurt,” Mr Abdulkarim.
He added that the victims were immediately taken to the Kukar Gadu Primary Health Care Centre for medical examination and other necessary support before being reunited with their families.
Mr Abdulkarim said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal syndicate responsible for the attack, adding that the command had intensified operations to bring them to justice.
