Yobe youth coalition raises N202 million for Lawan’s guber race
A youth coalition in Yobe has raised N202 million to support Senator Ahmad Lawan’s 2027 governorship bid despite his decision to step back from the race.
Dr Yerima Goni, president of Coalition for Yobe East Progressive Youths, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Damaturu on Sunday.
Mr Goni said that the amount comprised cash donations and pledges from supporters across the state.
He said that the contributions ranged from as low as N10 and N100, reflecting strong grassroots participation.
According to him, the initiative demonstrated public belief in collective action and people-driven development.
Mr Goni said that the coalition respected Mr Lawan’s decision to withdraw from the governorship race but wished he would have a rethink.
He said that Mr Lawan earlier explained that his decision was guided by wisdom and a lack of desperation, having served as president of the Senate.
The coalition president said the funds had been formally handed over to Mr Lawan for appropriate use.
He added that Mr Lawan expressed appreciation to the coalition and contributors for their trust and commitment.
Mr Goni said Mr Lawan directed the group to liaise with stakeholders to identify projects that would benefit communities across the state.
He assured that the coalition would ensure transparency and accountability in the utilisation of the funds.
Mr Goni said the group would publicly communicate selected projects and their implementation.
He described the development as a redirection toward sustainable community impact.
Mr Goni reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to unity, accountability and development in Yobe.
