Foreign affairs minister Yusuf Tuggar is set to submit his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu today (Monday) as a precursor to his governorship ambition.

A source close to the minister told Peoples Gazette that he is seeking to contest the 2027 Bauchi governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

“Mr Tuggar will submit his resignation letter to the president today. He will be contesting in the governorship election in Bauchi in 2027,” the source told The Gazette.

Mr Tuggar is one of many political appointees who are bound to resign their current positions by Tuesday to vie for elective offices.

Mr Tinubu had earlier in March issued a circular, ordering all appointees in his administration who intend to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign their appointments on or before March 31, 2026.

The directive was announced in a circular by the secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume, in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for party primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.

The directive applies to all categories of presidential political appointees seeking to participate in party primaries or contest for any elective office, including ministers, ministers of state, special advisers to the president, senior special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants, directors-general, and chief executive officers of federal government parastatals.
