The Zamfara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Governor Dauda Lawal to immediately reinstate the affected, victimised civil servants to save the state from an already escalating insecurity situation, as they too are bona fide citizens of the state.

This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau on Monday by the State APC publicity secretary, Yusuf Idris.

Over 3,000 civil servants allegedly sacked by the Zamfara government on Monday held a special prayer session for God’s intervention over their alleged disengagement from service in the state.

The alleged sacked workers included teachers, health workers, and others, drawn from the 14 local government areas of the state.

The statement reads in parts: “The state APC is appalled by the arbitrary and deliberate sacking of civil servants of the state by the PDP administration led by Governor Dauda Lawal. For the sake of immediate reference, people of the state woke up to the disturbing demonstration of over 3,000 workers who went through a recent verification exercise on the state civil servants without any dent but were asked to stay at home with their services no longer needed.

“The affected persons, who had spent between 10 to 20 years in dedicated service with a large number of dependants, are supposed to be sympathetic. So, these people, who are not the only victims of the state administration, have turned out in large numbers to seek spiritual intervention from the Almighty Allah by praying at the Gusau Eid praying ground with supplications in the Holy Qur’an.

“Comparatively, during the immediate past APC administration under the current Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, apart from giving employment to 1,400 persons waiting for regularisation, he employed over 9,000 persons, including political appointees, into the state workforce.”

According to Idris, in addition to 336 teachers and 200 nurses and midwives, with meagre resources when the monthly federal allocation was only about N3 billion, the then government was determined to boost social security.

He added, “We are therefore calling on the state government, especially the governor, to immediately reinstate the victimised civil servants to save the state from an already escalating insecurity situation.”
