Zamfara lawmaker empowers constituents with cash, motorcycles, others 

The governor described the effort of the lawmaker as a welcome development.

Senator Ikira Bilbis (PDP-Zamfara), in collaboration with the National Institute of Agricultural Research (NIAR), Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, has empowered 750 persons from his constituency under his 2025 Capital Project Empowerment Programme.

Mr Bilbis, who is the chairman, Senate committee on communications, represents Zamfara Central Senatorial District.

During the event which held in Gusau on Saturday, the lawmaker distributed 350 motorcycles, 250 tailoring machines and 150 freezers.

The lawmaker also distributed N100 million cash to various categories of the beneficiaries comprising men and women.

According to him, the beneficiaries were drawn from the four LGAs of Zamfara Central Constituency; Bungudu, Gusau, Maru and Tsafe.

Governor Dauda Lawal, who inaugurated the distribution of the items to the beneficiaries, described the effort of the lawmaker as a welcome development.

Mr Lawal, represented by his deputy, Mani Mummuni, said the effort of the lawmaker in supporting members of his constituency to become self-reliant  was in line with the rescue mission policy of his administration.

“I personally welcome this initiative, I appreciate your kind gesture to your people, this indicates your good representation for your constituents” the governor said.

Mr Lawal called on the beneficiaries to utilise the gestures to build their various businesses for future development.

In his remarks, Mr Bilbis said the beneficiaries comprised local governments chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), PDP elders, youths and women groups, aged persons, orphans and less-privileged persons, among others.

For the beneficiaries of the N100 million cash assistance, the lawmaker said it was to encourage them to develop their businesses.

The lawmaker promised to continue to deliver quality representation for his constituents.

Under his capital project, the lawmaker pledged to build additional 100 mosques and Islamic schools across the four LGAs that make up of his constituency.

He also said part of his proposed capital project was the installation of 1000 solar street lights across the four LGAs of the senatorial district.

The representative of NIAR, ABU Zaria, Ibrahim Haruna, commended the senator for collaborating with the university and vowed to support the project in actualising its objectives.
