No fewer than 10,000 students from Delta’s 25 local government areas benefited on Thursday from the ‘Flow With Confidence’ menstrual hygiene programme, under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RNI).

The initiative, led by first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, saw the presentation of 10,000 packs of disposable sanitary pads to schoolgirls statewide.

Each beneficiary received 12 packs of sanitary pads during the official distribution ceremony.

The beneficiaries were drawn from all 25 local government areas of the state.

Mrs Tinubu, represented by the wife of the Delta governor, Tobore Oborevwori, delivered the keynote address at the launch.

She said the programme aimed to strengthen menstrual hygiene support for schoolgirls across the country.

According to her, 370,000 disposable sanitary pads will be distributed across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“Menstrual health must never hinder a girl’s education, confidence or wellbeing,” she said.

She added that the campaign was designed to ensure no girl missed school due to a lack of sanitary products.

Mrs Tinubu described the donation as a demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to protecting and empowering the girl-child.

She urged governments, stakeholders and community leaders to intensify advocacy on menstrual hygiene education.

She noted that menstrual hygiene management remained critical to public health and gender equality.

“Empowering girls to manage their periods confidently is an investment in our nation’s future,” she said.

She added that healthy and educated girls grow into productive women who contribute meaningfully to society.

In his remarks, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori commended the initiative for addressing key health and educational challenges.

The governor was represented by the commissioner for health, Joseph Onojaeme.

He described the programme as impactful and complementary to the state’s healthcare and education policies.

Mr Oborevwori stressed the need for sustained collaboration between federal and state governments on health interventions.

He said menstrual hygiene management was a vital public health issue.

The governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to policies that improve student wellbeing and promote academic excellence.
