13 Cuban soldiers missing after explosions hit ammunition depot

The defence ministry did not comment on the suspected cause of the explosions or the potential casualties.

The Caribbean Island nation’s Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces said on Wednesday that several explosions had ripped through an ammunition and weapons depot in South-Eastern Cuba.

It added that 13 soldiers were missing due to the incident.

The ministry said, “As a result of the explosions the weapons and ammunition warehouse in the municipality of Rafael Freyre in the province of Holguin, the following military personnel have disappeared.’’

This is made known in a statement on X, listing the names of the 13 missing personnel.

The defence ministry did not comment on the suspected cause of the explosions or the potential casualties.

The families of the missing were contacted.

An investigation is underway.
