The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps says it has deployed 1,550 personnel to provide security before, during and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Osun.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the NSCDC commandant in Osun, Igbalawole Sotiyo, personnel are deployed to cover all areas of the state, including prayer grounds, critical national assets and infrastructure, recreational centres, and other public places.

He also said both covert and overt operatives had been deployed, emphasising that undercover operatives would be in charge of surveillance and information gathering.

Mr Sotiyo charged officers and men of the command to work in synergy with other sister agencies for a hitch-free celebration.

“We are aware there will be an influx of people into the state. Hence, every necessary security arrangement has been put in place for adequate security of critical infrastructure, praying grounds, lives and property, marketplaces and public places,” he said.

He warned miscreants and disgruntled elements who might want to perpetrate criminality to steer clear of the state or be ready to face the consequences of their actions.

Mr Sotiyo appealed to the public to support security personnel by reporting suspicious movements and persons in their environment to the nearest security agency.

The commandant further urged everyone to celebrate within the confines of the law.

He also advised those travelling for the celebration to avoid nighttime travel and speeding.
