The 2023 Appropriation Bill of Sokoto State amounting to N198.5 billion and presented by Governor Aminu Tambuwal has passed second reading at the state House of Assembly.

This development followed a motion by Majority Leader Malami Basakkwace for the lawmakers’ deliberation on the proposed budget at the plenary session on Wednesday.

The members, during the debate on the general principles of the proposed 2023 budget, commended the governor for his foresight in the budget.

They, however, agreed that a commendation letter be sent to the governor for what they called a visionary 2023 budget proposal for the state.

In his motion, Mr Basakkwace (PDP- Sokoto South II) prayed the House to allow the second reading of the proposed budget.

The speaker, Aminu Achida, referred the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further legislative processes, as the lawmakers unanimously accepted it in a voice vote.

Mr Tambuwal had, on Monday, presented the proposed 2023 budget to the assembly.

The governor said the expenditure distribution of the proposed budget contained N41.3 billion for personnel costs, N42.7 billion for other recurrent costs and N111.4 billion capital expenditure.

He said the capital expenditure represented 58.9 per cent, while recurrent spending is 41.1 per cent of the total budget.

Mr Tambuwal said the budget would accord priority to the completion of ongoing infrastructural and the legacy projects in the state.
