2026 World Cup: France sweep away Sweden to qualify for quarter-final

France have defeated Sweden 3-0 in their round of 32 match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Tuesday, advancing to the round of 16 of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Goals by Kylian Mbappe in the 45th and 65th minutes, as well as another by Bradley Barcola in the 53rd minute, sealed the victory for the former world champions.
Mbappe moves level with Argentina’s Lionel Messi on six goals as the race for this tournament’s golden boot heats up.
The 27-year-old also biw has a total of 18 World Cup goals, and just one behind Messi’s overall record of 19.
France will now take on Paraguay at the Lumen Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the round of 32 on Saturday.
The winner will face the winner between Canada and Morocco in the quarter-final on Thursday at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts for a place in the semi-finals.
