2026 World Cup: Portugal pound Uzbekistan 5-0; Colombia edge DR Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo dealt their round-of-32 qualification hopes a huge blow on Wednesday, as they failed to secure a result in their second 2026 World Cup Group K tie against Colombia.
Daniel Muňoz converted an assist from Juanfer Quintero in the 76th minute to give Colombia a lone-goal victory and the maximum six points to top the group after two games at the Estadio Akron in Zapopan, Mexico.
In the other second group match on Tuesday, a Christiano Ronaldo brace, first goal in the sixth minute and the second in the 38th, along with a Nono Mendez freekick goal in the 17th minute, an own goal by Uzbekistan’s Abduvohid Nematov in the 60th minute, and an 87th minute strike by Rafael LÄ“ao, earned Portugal a resounding 5-0 victory.
Portugal are now second with four points, DR Congo are third with one point, while bottom-placed Uzbekistan are without a point.
The final Group K games billed for Sunday will see Portugal face Colombia, while DR Congo will tackle Uzbekistan.
