The Nigerian Railway Corporation has failed to produce a manifest of passengers aboard the ill-fated Kaduna bound train 24 hours after its bombing on Monday.

Peoples Gazette on Monday reported that a train carrying over 1,000 passengers was bombed by bandits armed to the teeth with an arsenal of sophisticated weapons that included RPGs and grenades.

The Gazette further reported that dental surgeon, Chinelo Megafu, was among the fatalities of the unfortunate incident. She died from gunshots fired by the bandits. 

While Ms Megafu’s death has been confirmed, the railway corporation was yet to account for other passengers whose identities and whereabouts remain unknown.

The corporation which was swift to announce a suspension of its services in Kaduna, had yet to give an account of other passengers who boarded the train as at the time of filing this report.

In response to The Gazette’s query, the Managing Director of the railway corporation, said the manifest cannot be released for security reasons.

Although, the corporation said it could not give an actual figure for casualties or fatalities because passengers fled to the nearby bush for safety, no reason has been disclosed for the holdback on the manifest.

A manifest contains personal information of passengers that includes name, phone number, contact address and next of kin.

The issue has raised concerns over the incompetence of the Muhammadu Buhari regime whose lack-lustre attitude in tackling incessant security crises across the country is mirrored by other government agencies
