Ikorodu Local Government, Lagos State, has enrolled no fewer than 300 elderly people on health insurance schemes.

The chairman, Adedayo Ladega, said during the medical outreach on Friday in Ikorodu, the gesture was to fulfill the promise he made to the people during his election campaign.

The outreach was conducted for elderly residents between the ages of 60 and 85 and cash gifts to 100 people at the council secretariat.

The programme was tagged “Mudun Mudun, Itoju Agba (Care for the elderly) and Ladega Cash support”.

The medical team conducted screening on diabetes and high blood pressure.

Also, Lagos State Health Management Agency (Ilera Eko) insurance cards were issued to all the beneficiaries.

Mr Ladega said: “The promise I made to my people during my campaign is to prioritise their health and welfare.

“That is why we have decided to organise this programme for people to know their health condition and to know the hospital they are registered at.

“The health care, food pack and cash are palliatives to cushion hardship experienced by our people inline with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President,” he said.

Mr Ladega urged the youth not to engage in vices, but be hopeful that the current administration would ensure prosperity for all its citizens.

“The very first day I resumed office, I summoned all the security agencies and the local vigilante to intensify their efforts.

“My administration will bring prosperity to Ikorodu residents; we have many programmes lined up that will be of benefit to the people,” he said.

One of the health insurance beneficiaries, Akeem Odubeko, expressed gratitude to the chairman.

Mr Odubeko advised others to ensure they made use of the scheme for their health benefit, adding that “health is wealth.”

Also speaking, a beneficiary of cash and food packs, Saidat Bakare, commended the chairman and urged him to reactivate the weekly environmental sanitation exercise.

“It is to ensure that Ikorodu is a cleaner environment for all,” Ms Bakare said.
