The Nigerian Union of Journalists, the Anambra council, says its upcoming Press Week will offer it the opportunity to reflect on its achievements and the challenges facing journalism.

This was noted in a statement on Thursday by council chairman Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, secretary Okechukwu Onuegbu and Francis Ekpone, chairman of the Press Week committee.

According to the union, dignitaries expected at the events include Governor Charles Soludo and his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim.

Also expected to attend are the Anambra House of Assembly speaker, Somtochukwu Udeze, and the chief judge of Anambra, Onochie Anyachebelu, as well as NUJ president, Alhassan Yahya.

The union said part of the activities marking the event would be a visit to the Correctional Centre, the destitute and motherless babies’ homes.

They said the highlight of this year’s celebration would be the conferment of the Man of the Year Award on the chairman and founder of the Ichie Akubudike Foundation, Martin Nwabueze.

Mr Nwabueze, who hails from Umudioka, Dunukofia council area, was selected for the award based on his contributions to humanity.

The Acommissioner for works and infrastructure, Okey Ezeobi, received the award in 2025.
