45-year-old man arrested for stealing phones in Ogun

A 45-year-old man, Longe Adekanmi, on Monday, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly breaking into a house to steal two mobile phones valued at ₦300,000.
Mr Adekanmi is facing a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 25, at approximately 3:00 a.m., at the Second Transformer Area, Ijagba, Ota.
Mr Adaraloye alleged that the defendant broke into the home of the complainant, Mariam Marouf, and stole a Samsung A03 Android phone and an iPhone 7 Plus, valued at a total of ₦300,000.
He said the phones were traced to the defendant after the complainant reported the incident to the police.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 390 and 411 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Ms. Fadairo stated that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.
She adjourned the case until August 14 for further hearing.
