520 lives lost in six months to Myanmar’s violent attacks: Agency
A total of 520 people have been killed in violent attacks in Myanmar in nearly six months from August 1, 2023 to January 29, 2024.
The official Myanmar News Agency reported on Thursday.
The victims included three Buddhist monks, 438 civilians and 79 civil servants, the media report said.
During the period, 11 electric and communications towers, 97 bridges and toll gate buildings, six healthcare buildings, 13 schools and other educational buildings were damaged in the attacks.
According to the report, the attacks were carried out by the People’s Defence Force across the Southeast Asian country.
The PDF is the armed wing of the National Unity Government formed in 2021 in response to the take over of Myanmar elected government by the military.
The military junta had designated the PDF as a terrorist organisation on May 8, 2021.
Myanmar had declared a state of emergency since February 1, 2021, and since then a total of 6,880 people have been killed in violent attacks across the country, the media report added.
