604 people died in road crashes in Oyo, Osun, Ondo in 2023: FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Friday, said that a total of 604 people died in 1196 road crashes in Oyo, Osun and Ondo states between January and December 2023.

The FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer for Osun, Oyo and Ondo States, ACM Meshach Jatau, said this in an interview with journalists in Osogbo.

Mr Jatau said that 3,266 people also got injured in road accidents in the three states within the period.

He said that a total of 7,833 people were involved in road accidents, while 3,963 were rescued within the 12-month period under review.

The zonal commanding officer said that the command also intercepted 72,388 drivers for violation of traffic rules and regulations in 2023

”We apprehended 72,388 motorists in 2023 and were able to educate about 40,338 within the 12 months under review.

”The FRSC in the zone will not shirk its responsibilities by ensuring that improved driving habits lead to safer highways in the country,” Mr Jatau said.

He further charged personnel of the corps to discharge their duties with professionalism in order not to constitute a security nuisance on the highways.

Mr Jatau said the corps would continue to strategise with transport stakeholders towards ensuring safety on highways.
