No less than seventy persons were on Saturday arrested in Ondo for allegedly violating the state’s environmental sanitation law.
The victims, mostly residents, were apprehended in different parts of the capital city, Akure, during the weekend monthly sanitation exercise.
The sanitation task force officers of the Ondo Waste Management Authority arrested the alleged violators during a monitoring exercise.
Sunday Akinwalere, Ondo Commissioner for Environment, disclosed this shortly after the October edition of the monthly cleaning exercise.
“Seventy persons have been arrested. We want to clamp down on those who violate environmental laws. We will continue to ensure that Ondo State is free from refuse population,” Mr Olajumbu disclosed on Saturday.
He explained that the government had repeatedly warned against an unhygienic environment, stressing that violators would always face the full wrath of the law.
According to him, all residents have been advised to key into the monthly environmental sanitation exercise to ensure healthy living.
“So, Ondo must remain clean and hygienic for all of us to live in,” Mr Olajumbu added.
While asking the residents to make cleanliness a daily affair to ward off any form of diseases, he called for the need of market men and women to continue to cooperate and support the government to ensure a healthy environment to live in.
Mr Olajumbu also lauded Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for his proactiveness and commitment to preventing flooding ravaging some parts of the country from occurring in Ondo
“The procurement of Swamp Buggies by the government to clear waterways has drastically reduced flooding and prevented loss of lives and property in the state,” he added.
