FCT minister condemns mob killing by Islamic fanatics over alleged blasphemy
FCT Minister Muhammad Bello has condemned the mob attack on a vigilante operative, Ahmad Usman, on Saturday.
Islamic fanatics pounced on the victim in Lagbe, just outskirts of the Federal Capital city centre, setting him alight for allegedly saying he would not release a detained suspect “even if God comes down” from heaven.
Mr Bello, in a statement by his media aide, Anthony Ogunleye, reiterated that no one had the right to take the laws into their hands, no matter the circumstances or perceived level of provocation.
He said that the FCT Administration would not tolerate any form of mob attacks on any residents of the territory or the breakdown of law and order.
The minister called on the security agencies to ensure that all those who participated in this heinous act were apprehended and prosecuted.
Mr Bello reminded residents that FCT was founded on national unity, peace and love for the country and fellow countrymen.
He maintained that the mob’s action at Lugbe negates these principles and will not be tolerated.
The minister assured residents of their safety and urged them to go about their lawful affairs without fear of molestation.
He also called for their cooperation in securing their communities by reporting to the security agencies whenever suspicious persons or actions were identified.
The victim was killed after he reportedly vowed not to release a suspect even if God asked him to do so.
