VGC waters found contaminated with methamphetamines after NDLEA drug lab bust

The alarm follows a drug bust in the estate where a drug laboratory, used for the production of methamphetamine was uncovered.

• July 31, 2022

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned that underground waters in Victoria Garden City, a high-end estate in the affluent Lekki area of Lagos, has been contaminated with psychotropic drug methamphetamine.

The alarm follows a drug bust in the estate where a drug laboratory, used for the production of methamphetamine was uncovered.

Two suspects, Emeka Nzewi and his wife, were on Saturday arrested in the apartment located at K-5A/2, Road 14, VGC, estate management VGCPORA, said in a statement.

Mr Nzewi has been on the wanted list of the NDLEA since 2017.

VGCPORA alongside NDLEA warned residents of the area that methamphetamine was found in the water bodies within the cluster that contained the illicit facility.

“All boreholes, water supply and plants 500 meters away from K-5A/2 Road 14 have been contaminated. Therefore, VGCPORA in conjunction with NDLEA will conduct test of water supply to properties around K-5A/2. Road 14,” a part of the statement read.

Noting that the drug laboratory has been sealed, the estate management advised landlords to always carry out background check on prospective tenants before leasing out their properties.

The estate management alleged that domestic employees are being used as the distributors of illegal drugs within the VGC community, urging the residents to collaborate with the management so they can make the community drug free.

“Alcohol and drug misuse pose a threat to the health and safety of VGC and to the security of the community. We request that you join hands with us to make VGC a drug free community. If you see something, say something,” the VGCPORA stated.
