A traditional ruler in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Adamu Yunusa has directed religious and cultural leaders in his domain to enforce drug integrity tests on intending couples.

Mr Yunusa, the Ona of Abaji, gave the directive during an advocacy visit by Buba Marwa, the chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), according to a statement by the spokesman for the anti-narcotics agency, Femi Babafemi.

The traditional ruler said intending couples would be presented with a certificate of fitness before marriage.

“We will do our best to ensure that drug integrity tests are carried out on intending couples before certificates are issued to them,” Mr Yunusa said.

The Ona of Abaji, also the chairman, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of Chiefs, directed the chief imam of Abaji and other religious leaders to implement the directive immediately.

Meanwhile, the Ona conferred a chieftaincy title, Santuraki of Abaji Kingdom, on the NDLEA boss at his 25th coronation anniversary.
