Sales agent bags 9 months’ imprisonment for stealing employer’s money

A sales representative, Hassan Nasir, has been sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment by a Dei-dei Grade I Area Court for stealing N759, 400 from his employer.
Mr Nasir, 30, a resident of Suleja, Niger, was convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty to theft.
He begged the court for leniency.
The Judge Sulyman Ola, however, gave him an option to pay a fine of N40,000.
Mr Ola also ordered him to pay the complainant, Aruwa Muhammed, N759,000 as compensation.
Mr Ola said that failure to make the payment would earn Nasir an additional five months in prison.
He warned the convict to desist from crime.
The prosecutor Babajide Olanipekun had told the court that the complainant reported the case at the Gwagwa Police Station on September 23.
Mr Olanipekun said the convict, a van sales representative for Checkers Custard Company, sold goods worth N759,400 and converted the same to his personal use.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code.
