The Nasarawa State House of Assembly passed 237 Bills and 445 resolutions in the last 23 years, the chairman, House Committee on Information, Mohammed Omadefu, said on Monday.

Mr Omadefu disclosed this to journalists on Monday in Lafia ahead of the official unveiling of the House’s 2022 Compendium.

“It is worthy to note that the journey of the house has been good and rewarding, as we have passed 237 bills into law and 445 resolutions within the 23 years of its existence,” he said.

Mr Omadefu (APC- Keana) explained that the unveiling of the compendium on October 12 at the Ta’al Conference Hotel, Lafia, would acquit the people of the state on the legislative activities since its birth.

He described the journey of the assembly as good, attributing the development witnessed across the state to the number and quality of bills and resolutions passed and other activities of the house.

“While the first assembly passed 33 bills, the second assembly passed 20 bills; the third 31 bills; fourth assembly 45 bills; fifth assembly 48 bills and the present sixth assembly has so far passed 44 bills. Sixteen are in different stages of passage.

“For resolutions, the first assembly passed 136, the second passed 71, the third passed 81, the fourth passed 57, the fifth passed 57, and the present, which is the sixth assembly, has so far passed about 50 resolutions.

“All these bills and resolutions have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state and other Nigerians,” he said.

Mr Omadefu, however, called on stakeholders and other residents to attend the event to acquaint themselves with the full happenings of the house since its inception.

He commended the speaker of the house, Ibrahim Abdullahi, for all his inclusive, purposeful, good leadership and foresight in coming up with the idea of the compendium.

The legislative spokesman assured the executive and the judicial arms of government in the state of members of continued commitment to effective partnership for the overall development of the state.
