Gunmen abduct top traditional ruler, lecturer, others

Gunmen have kidnapped Aaron Ikuru, monarch of Ikuru, and some boat travellers, including a lecturer in Rivers.
The abduction took place on Sunday night in Ikuru in Andoni local government area.
The monarch was abducted at gunpoint around 9:00 pm at his residence shortly after the assailants whisked him away, PUNCH reported.
However, in another separate attack, some boat travellers and a University of Port Harcourt lecturer were intercepted by the gunmen.
It was gathered that the commuters were kidnapped at gunpoint while returning from Adoni to Port Harcourt.
According to PUNCH’s report, the monarch’s spokesperson, Maurice Ikuru, confirmed the incident.
“Yes, it’s true. It happened about 8:30 or 9:00 pm,” Mr. Ikuru said.
When contacted by phone Monday morning, Nnamdi Omoni, police command spokesman in the state, confirmed the abduction to Peoples Gazette.
“The command is aware of the abduction of a monarch that occurred last night, and we are working on it. Not only him, others too were abducted,” he said.
