The vice-chancellor of the University of Benin, Lilian Salami, has directed the institution’s closure of academic activities for the 2023 general elections.

The institution’s registrar, Ademola Bobola, announced this in a notice on Sunday in Benin.

Mr Bobola said the university would close from February 22 to March 14 in compliance with the federal government’s directive through National Universities Commission.

The registrar, who said normal academic activities would resume on March 15, also directed all the students resident on campus to vacate their hostels latest 12 noon on February 22.

He quoted the vice-chancellor and the university management as urging students to conduct themselves peacefully during the general elections.
