Governor Mai-Mala Buni has lifted the ban on using motorcycles in seven local government areas.

This is contained in a statement by Dahiru Abdulsalam, the special adviser on security affairs to the Yobe governor.

”The ban on motorcycles is hereby lifted with effect from March 6 in Bursari, Damaturu, Geidam, Gujba, Gulani, Tarmuwa and Yunusari,” the governor said. “The ban is lifted with the following conditions: motorbikes are to operate between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.”

However, he warned that the motorbikes would not convey passengers and would not be used for commercial purposes.

”Only one rider will be allowed without any other person on the motorbike,” the governor said. “There should be proper registration, licensing, and documentation of all motorbikes and riders in the affected LGAs by the Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA) and the Yobe State Vehicle Licensing Authority.”

The state government also directed that motorbikes are to operate within their respective LGAs only.

“There would be no inter-local government area movement. Anyone found violating this condition would be appropriately sanctioned,” Mr Buni explained. “All security agencies are requested to monitor and ensure strict compliance with these directives.”
