Nigerians react to court ordering INEC to deregister Peter Obi’s NDC
Several Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the deregistation of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following a court ruling over the party’s logo.
On Friday, the Kogi Division of the Federal High Court upheld an application filed by the Peace Movement Party (PMP), leading to the ruling.
Several users on Facebook and X, the social media platform, reacted to the judgement, with some alleging that President Bola Tinubu was attempting to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election.
The ruling has generated mixed reactions on social media.
Festus Ogun wrote on Facebook, “ADC is crippled with litigation. NDC is crippled with litigation AA is crippled with litigation ZLP is crippled with litigation PDP is finished with litigation Bola Tinubu wants to run without opposition.”
Another user, Omoyele Sowore (@sowore), wrote on X, “The coordinated assault on Nigerians’ right to political participation under Tinubu’s era of morontocracy is now complete with the court-ordered deregistration of the NDC.
“I totally condemn this assault on democracy. Like every other act of repression by this regime, it will not stand!#RevolutionNOW #TinubuMustGo #Sowore2027 #Soworeforpresident.”
Another verified X user, Theo Abu (@TheoAbuAgada), said the NDC would appeal the judgment and maintained that all nominations remained valid.
“You people are too small.
We are appealing the judgment. The NDC is not deregistered, all nominations remain valid. We are going to defeat the rudderless APC-led administration. Nigerians have rejected the APC,” he said.
Another user, Mr Olamide (@PinnaclesGLtd), questioned, “Court Nullifies NDC Registration! What Really Happened?”
“The decision of the Federal High Court in Lokoja to set aside the judgment that led to the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has triggered political controversy. While many have framed it as a judicial attack on the opposition, the legal record is more nuanced.”
