A road crash involving a Toyota SUV and Mazda car killed five occupants of the car, the police command in Bayelsa said.

SP Asinim Butswat, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the incident on Saturday and said the accident occurred on Friday.

“On April 28, 2023, at about 1500 hours, a black Toyota SUV with Reg number RGM-38-HM had a head-on collision with a Mazda 323F car with Reg No.NEM-456-PG, along the Amassoma Road, Yenagoa Local Government Area.

“Four passengers and the driver of the Mazda car died on the spot. A female passenger was rescued and hospitalised at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri.

“Corpses of the victims were deposited at the same hospital for autopsy,” Mr Butswat said.

He said efforts were underway to arrest the SUV car driver and ascertain the cause of the fatal car crash.

The Dean of Student Affairs at Niger Delta University, Amassoma, in Bayelsa, died in a car crash on the same road in a lone car crash on January 21.
