The Police Command in Anambra says the battle against insurgents in the state would be sustained until stability was fully restored.

The command’s public relations officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said this on Thursday in Awka.

The PPRO said the command, through its combined security efforts, had made key arrests in some parts of the state including Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area.

He said that a raid in Ogbunike where a deadly gang operates led to the arrest of a suspect, Jamul Emiron, aged 22 years.

According to him, the police had also neutralised some armed men in the area and recovered vehicles and lots of police and military uniforms.

“Akwaihedi in Nnewi North, a border town between Imo and Anambra where another deadly gang operating on bikes was accosted and we recovered two rocket launchers, automatic pump action, Ak-47 rifles, etc.

“The story is the same at Nkpor Idemili North LGA, where a gang of four operating in an unregistered Lexus jeep terrorising the area, was also arrested and we recovered explosives and other incriminating items.

“The list of arrests we have made in some areas of the state recently is alarming, but we want to ask for the public trust in our ability to provide desired security,” he said

Mr Ikenga said that the command under the Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng has improved operational and strategic positioning of both human and viable assets to combat insecurity in the state.

He urged the public to partner the command through prompt, useful and factual information to enable the police deliver quality security services to the residents of the state.

The spokesman said that the command had recorded some major positive developments in the state, following credible information given to it by residents of Anambra.

“We put the information into work and discovered they were true reflections of what is happening in the targeted areas.

“We then launched our skills and capabilities and identified some of the criminal hideouts and the rest is history,” he said.

Mr Ikenga urged the public to “say something once they see something or suspect some movement that is not lawful.”

Mr Ikenga said that the public could reach the command in times of security emergencies on the “npf rescue me” app.

He said it is available for free download on both Android and iPhone users, respectively.

He added that the command was grateful to the public for their show of support, and assured the residents that security of the people was their primary target.

Mr Ikenga said that normalcy had returned to some parts of the state that were troubled recently, and advised all to be law-abiding as they lawfully do their daily businesses.
