Alleged drug trafficker nabbed with 28 bags of cannabis in Katsina

The police command in Katsina has arrested a 37-year-old suspected drug trafficker and recovered 28 bags of substance suspected to be cannabis from him. The command’s spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the suspect was arrested during an operation in the Mashi council area.
Mr Sadiq-Aliyu also said the suspect was arrested at about 8:00 p.m. on Monday by operatives of the command during a routine visibility patrol along the Mashi-Birnin Kuka border axis.
According to him, a thorough search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of 28 bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
“The suspect confessed during interrogation to trafficking the illicit substance with the intention of distributing and selling it within the state and beyond,” the statement said.
The officer said the suspect was still in custody while an investigation was ongoing, adding that he would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The police commissioner, Ali Umar-Fage, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse across the state.
The commissioner warned drug traffickers and other criminal elements to desist from their activities or face the full weight of the law.
