Peter Obi hails The Guardian’s nation-building journalism at 40th anniversary

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has hailed The Guardian newspaper as it marks its 40th anniversary since its inception.
Mr Obi took to his Twitter page to heap accolades and to share his admiration for the media house while urging them to remain firm in the struggle for a better Nigeria.
“It pleases me to join Nigerians and especially the media community in Nigeria to congratulate The Guardian Newspaper for reaching the landmark publishing age of 40 years.
“The entry of The Guardian into the realm of Nigeria’s print media was propitious and very significant because of the discipline and the high ethical and quality editorial content that earned it the distinction of being referred to as the “Flagship of Nigeria Journalism.”
“Gladly, the Newspaper has lived up to its motto: “Conscience, Nurtured by Truth” through its succinct, mature, and unbiased editorial contents that stood it out as a utility partner in nation-building,” Mr Obi said.
Mr Obi pointed out the efforts and sacrifices of The Guardian newspaper in ushering in the democratic rule Nigerians enjoy today while ousting the military regime in Nigeria’s polity.
He also commended The Guardian newspaper for surviving the harsh entrepreneurial and political environment in Nigeria for the past forty years while remaining steadfast in producing highly ethical and professional journalism.
Mr Obi also paid a special tribute to the publisher and all past and present staff of The Guardian for creating the success story of The Guardian newspaper through the years.
According to Wikipedia, The Guardian newspaper was first published on 22 February 1983 as a weekly newspaper, appearing only on Sundays.
The Guardian started daily publication on 4 July 1983 and 2023 makes its forty years of existence.
