“Courageous” businessman killed by bandits while resisting kidnap

In what can now sadly be termed a daily occurrence, marauding gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed eight civilians in separate attacks across communities in Kaduna State.
The incident occurred at Chikun, Giwa and Kajuru Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
This was made known Wednesday in a statement sent to Peoples Gazette by Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs.
“Eight people have been killed, and four injured by armed bandits in separate attacks dotted across Chikun, Giwa and Kajuru local government areas,” Mr Aruwan said.
Among those fatally shot was a businessman who resisted a kidnapping attempt when the brigands invaded Hayin Kanwa village in Giwa LGA.
Defence minister Bashir Magashi had in February charged citizens to stop running away when bandits attacked their abode but rather stay back and resist.
It is not immediately clear how many unarmed citizens have taken the minister’s charge to heart even in the face of brutish brigands.
The commissioner disclosed that the brigands opened fire on a vehicle that somersaulted along Kan Hawa Zankoro near Ungwan Yako axis of Chikun LGA, leading to the deaths of six travellers while four others sustained injuries.
However, the commissioner further disclosed that the gun-wielding men attacked locals at Iburu village and fatally shot one resident.
Bandits have continued to carry out deadly attacks leading to the deaths of many residents in most communities across the central and southern senatorial district of the state.
The bandits have also continued to abduct victims for ransom. Most communities are ravaged while many have lost their means of livelihoods due to banditry.
