Troops ‘recover’ 5 of abducted college students in Kaduna
Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued five out of the 39 abducted students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Kaduna.
The rescued students who have been in captivity for over 20 days are undergoing thorough medical check-up at a military facility after a recovery operation by the military.
This was made known Monday in a statement issued by Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs.
“The Nigerian military has informed the Kaduna State Government that five of the many kidnapped students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna were recovered this afternoon and are presently in a military facility where they are undergoing a thorough medical check-up,” Mr Aruwan said.
Peoples Gazette had reported how armed bandits invaded the school premises on March 12 and whisked away many students at gun point.
The military in a swift response, interjected the bandits and rescued about180 students and staffers of the college.
The fate of the remaining 39 students who have been in captivity for 24 days lies with the security agencies that have put in little efforts in tackling banditry. Governor Nasir El-Rufai vowed that he will not negotiate or pay any ransom to bandits.
