FRSC urges Nigerians to assist road accident victims
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Wednesday, appealed to Nigerians to always show more concern and assist accident victims in rescuing them from the cold hands of death.
FRSC sector commander in Kogi, Samuel Oyedeji, made the call at a news conference in Lokoja to commemorate the 2023 African Road Safety Day and World Day of Remembrance for road traffic crash victims.
He said the theme for the 2023 commemoration is “JUSTICE”, while the slogan is “Remember, Support and Act”.
According to him, the theme seeks to indicate the position of the corps in accomplishing Goal One of the 2023 Corporate Strategic Goal.
“Goal one of corporate strategic goal seeks to accomplish five per cent reduction in road traffic deaths and injuries.”
Mr Oyedeji noted that some road crash victims, unfortunately, lost their lives due to lack of concern, compassion and assistance from spirited individuals around them.
“We are all vulnerable to road crashes as long as we move about, and so should show concern to those who fell victim since we don’t know when and who is next.
“This week-long programme which is in commemoration of the 2023 African Road Safety Day and World Day of Remembrance for road traffic crash victims, is crucial to the FRSC.
“The objective of this event is to provide a platform to remember people killed and those seriously injured through road traffic crashes.
“It also acknowledges the crucial work of the emergency services, advocate for better support for road traffic victims and families of victims,” he said.
The sector commander further said that it was also meant to promote evidence-based actions to prevent and eventually stop further road traffic deaths and injuries.
Mr Oyedeji said the news conference was part of the various programmes lined up to commemorate the 2023 RTC remembrance day that began on Monday, Nov. 13.
“By Thursday, Nov. 16, we shall have an enlightenment rally at the Mega Terminal Park on Friday, Nov. 18; Juma’at prayer at Shagari Mosque, Saturday, Nov. 18; Hospital visitation and Sunday, Nov. 19; Thanksgiving service at Living Faith Church, 500 Unit, Lokoja,” he said.
The sector commander, however, sympathised with the families, friends, organisations and communities that lost their loved ones in road traffic crashes.
He also prayed to God to grant the injured victims quick recovery.
