Lagos bus service sacks workers, reward others

On Sunday, the Lagos Bus Service Limited rewarded its “outstanding” employees and dismissed some “erring staff members” during the year.
LBSL managing director Idowu Oguntona stated this in an interview on the sidelines of the end-of-the-year town hall meeting with company staff members, held on Sunday in Oshodi, Lagos.
“We are appreciating 59 of our staff, such as captains, maintenance and ground staff, with tokens and plaques. The commissioner for transportation (Oluwaseun Osiyemi) has magnanimously doubled the token to appreciate all the awardees and encourage them to do more,” said Mr Oguntona.
He noted that the management had dismissed some staff for misconduct, while some were punished in the last 12 months. The LBSL boss urged staff to work hard, promising the firm would always reward them.
Mr Oguntona said LBSL had plied 250,000 miles in 2023, the highest in the last four years of operations, and commended the workers’ efforts. He said the service had also generated its highest revenue despite the subsidy removal on petroleum products.
“We expect that there is going to be an increase in the fleet in 2024,” Mr Oguntona said.
LBSL operates with 200 buses, transporting some 55,000 Lagos residents daily.
Mr Oguntona assured the firm’s workers of improved welfare and salaries to enable them to meet their expectations. He said all staff would be incorporated into the same health maintenance organisation.
