The police command in Nasarawa State has banned the sales and use of fireworks in the state during the yuletide.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Nadada, said this in a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, on Thursday in Lafia.

Mr Nadada said that divisional police officers had been directed to ensure full compliance and enforcement.

“The ban becomes necessary due to the dangers associated with them which include being used by criminals to create tension and carry out criminal acts. Also, they have a high tendency to cause bodily injuries and fire outbreaks,” he added.

The CP warned dealers and users of fireworks to desist forthwith.

He also urged parents and guardians to discourage their children and wards from buying and igniting fireworks, adding that individuals caught would be made to face the full weight of the law.
