NCoS controller general promises to focus on officers’ welfare

The controller general of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Haliru Nababa, has promised to prioritise personnel welfare to boost their morale for more work and dedication to service.
Mr Nababa said this during the decoration ceremony of the newly promoted officers and men of the Service on Thursday in Abuja.
He congratulated all those promoted on their well-deserved elevation, saying that it was also important to note that their career growth would naturally reinvigorate the system and inspire sustainability.
Mr Nababa said, “The need to always keep them motivated and in high-spirit. Promotion of officers as and when due is one way of assuring officers and men that their individual performances are recognised and well appreciated.
“Of significant note is the fact that the entire year 2023 promotion exercise took place within record time, signifying great improvement in the system. A total of 5,014 officers benefitted from the exercise, representing about 72 per cent of those who sat for the examinations.
“Fifty-three officers were decorated today symbolically. Personnel welfare will remain a top priority under my watch. Staff housing and office accommodation, as you are all aware, is being given special attention with the construction of new barracks and renovation of dilapidated ones.”
The prison boss encouraged the few who participated but did not reach the last stage, charging them not to relent as theirs would come in due time.
He tasked the newly promoted and decorated officers with more work and tougher challenges, saying that promotion comes with higher responsibilities.
“As serious-minded corrections officers, I expect nothing short of dedication to duty and professionalism in line with statutory provisions and extant rules. On my part, I will not relent in providing the required policy and administrative support within available resources to ensure smooth and effective service delivery,” he said.
Mr Nababa called on the personnel to re-double their effort in discharging their assigned duties, saying that loyalty should be their watchword as the service ensured that the new political dispensation in the country succeeded.
