Zamfara governor urges judges to show no mercy to bandits

Governor Bello Matawalle has urged judges not to be lenient with bandits and be patriotic in handling their cases.
He said this in a statement by his spokesman Yusuf Idris in Gusau on Thursday.
The governor appealed to the judges when he hosted them along with legislators to the breaking of the Ramadan fast.
He said judges handling banditry cases should be patriotic and show no mercy as part of their contribution to ending banditry and kidnapping in the state.
The governor commended the two arms of government for the cordial working relationship with the executive, especially their support to the government’s fight against banditry.
Mr Matawalle noted that the state assembly enacted laws that have benefited the people and urged all arms of government to sustain the efforts.
The Speaker of Zamfara House of Assembly, Nasiru Magarya, said the legislature and judiciary received tremendous support from the governor and operated without interference.
Those in attendance included the state’s chief judge, Justice Kulu Aliyu, Grand Khadi, Dahiru Mohammed, members of the state assembly, the state high court judges, khadis of Shariah Court of Appeal, magistrates, and Shari’ah Court judges.
