NFF appoints ex-international Finidi George as head coach for Ghana, Mali friendly games

Ex-Super Eagles international Finidi George will take over the vacant national team head coach position on an interim basis for Nigeria’s upcoming friendly games against Ghana and Mali.
“Former Nigeria forward Finidi George will occupy the chief’s corner in the dugout when the Super Eagles confront West African arch-rivals Ghana in an international friendly in Marrakech on Friday,” the Nigeria Football Federation said on Tuesday.
The position has been vacant since the NFF parted ways with ex-manager Jose Peseiro earlier this month, and there have been speculations about the person to step in pending the appointment of a permanent replacement.
But the NFF has now decided to let George, who is currently the head coach of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Enyimba F.C, take charge of Eagles’ games against Ghana and Mali in Morocco.
He was also part of the national team set up as one of the assistant coaches under Peseiro.
Nigeria will renew their rivalry against West African arch-rivals Black Stars of Ghana at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in Morocco on March 22 before taking on Mali on March 26 at the same venue.
