The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector commander in Oyo state, Joshua Adekanye, said on Saturday that the corps has deployed over 30 heavy-duty tow trucks and ambulances on state highways.

Mr Adekanye told journalists in Ibadan that the deployment was to ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration.

The sector commander said that the corps had also co-opted the special marshalls to work with FRSC officers to have an accident-free celebration.

He added that the corps had properly trained and instructed its officers and special marshalls on ensuring free flow of traffic during and after festive period.

Mr Adekanye advised motorists to shun speeding and maintain lane discipline to avoid road traffic crashes on the highway.

“We want motorists to cooperate with us by obeying laid down traffic signs and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” he said.

Motor parks in the Ibadan metropolis witnessed a slight increase in the volume of passengers travelling to celebrate Easter with their families and loved ones.

A passenger travelling to Osogbo by car from Ibadan, Janet Adeyemi, said that the drivers have slightly increased the transport fare from N2,500 to N3,000.

On his part, a driver at Ojoo Bus terminal, Badru Akintola, said that drivers could not charge high transport fare due to the current economic hardship in the country.

He added that the slight increase in fare was for the people with extra luggage.

Some passengers who could not afford the fare were seen leaving the parks and moving along the expressway, hoping to get cheaper means of transportation, locally known as ‘Soole’
