EPL: Arsenal overcome Tottenham’s late scare to secure crucial points in title race

Arsenal survived a late scare in the North London Derby on Sunday afternoon as the Gunners managed a 3-2 away win over Tottenham to keep their push for the Premier League title alive.
The victory took Arsenal’s tally to 80 points as they remain top of the league table with four points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, who will still have one game in hand after their match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Arsenal took the lead 15 minutes into the match, courtesy of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s own goal. Micky van de Ven thought he had equalised for Tottenham in the 23rd minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Four minutes after the goal was chalked off, Arsenal scored their second goal of the game through Bukayo Saka, who slotted a low shot from an assist by Kai Havert, which reduced the pressure the hosts were exerting.
Arsenal were not done for the half as Havertz made it 3-0 in the 38th minute to make it a one-sided first-half game – assisted by Declan Rice, Havertz met the former West Ham United’s cross with a powerful header past the goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, the game’s direction changed entirely in the second half, with the rejuvenated Tottenham side almost pulling off a devastating comeback against Mikel Arteta’s team.
In the 64th minute, Cristian Romero pulled one back for the hosts as the defender controlled an error pass from David Raya with his chest before drilling a low shot into the bottom-right corner of the post.
Tottenham scored again in the 87th minute through Heung-Min Son’s penalty kick to make it 3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium, putting Arsenal on their edge.
However, the visitors could sustain the late pressure mounted on them by the hosts to secure the crucial three points at the end of the encounter.
