China’s Xi to meet Macron, von der Leyen in Paris

Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen for a three-way meeting on Monday during his visit to France.
Following the meeting at the Élysée Palace in the French capital, Messrs Macron and Xi plan to meet in the afternoon for one-on-one talks.
According to reports from Paris, Mr Xi’s state visit will focus on the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, economic issues and climate protection.
Cooperation in the fields of culture, sport and science are also on the agenda.
A Franco-Chinese business meeting and a state banquet are scheduled for the evening.
Mr Xi landed in France on Sunday.
His trip to Europe would also take him to Serbia and Hungary.
Even before Mr Xi’s arrival, Mr Macron had emphasised that everything must be done to involve China in current major global issues.
It was in Europe’s interest “to ensure that China is committed to the stability of the international order,” Mr Macron asserted.
It was essential to work with China to create peace, he added, noting that there would also be no progress on climate and biodiversity without agreements with Beijing.
