Portable releases new single ‘Spiderman’ hours after release from police custody over debt

Popular street singer Habeeb Okikiola, otherwise called Portable, has dropped a new single “SpiderMan” hours after he was arrested and released by the police in Lagos over failure to complete the balance of a G-Wagon he purchased.
The arrest followed an attempt by the singer to escape arrest.
The “Zazu” crooner purchased the high-end vehicle, valued at N27 million, but only managed to pay N13 million upfront, leaving a debt of N14 million. The dealer, exasperated by Portable’s consistent claims that the car was faulty and his refusal to settle the outstanding amount, decided to involve the police.
Confirming the arrest, Lagos police spokesperson Officer Benjamin Hundeyin told The PUNCH, “Yes, Portable has been arrested. He bought a G-Wagon for N27 million, paid N13 million, and refused to pay the rest, claiming that the vehicle was bad. We arrested him today.”
Subsequently, on Wednesday, Mr Hundeyin told the Vanguard that Portable had been granted bail.
Asked if the singer paid the debt before his release, Mr Hundeyin said, “I have no idea about it but what I can say is that he has been granted bail.”
Unfazed by the incident, Portable waxed songs about the ‘latest development in a new single.
He released a snippet of the song on his Instagram page and captioned it “Spider Man out Soon Prod by @2t_upondeebeatz
God is over everything ZEHNATION with many many inspirations.”
The lyrics of the song, rendered mostly in Yoruba and Pidgin, roughly translated meant that he would not die young and only those who owed debt live long.
He said, “Baba no go die young unless to ba darugbo,” meaning, “I’ll not die young until I’m old.”
“E mi ma firigi je obi o, mo ma lowo wo 90 o,” he said, meaning, “I’ll get old and have money till I turn 90.”
He added, “Emi ariku sa, Emi ariku yeri,” meaning, “one who sees death and flees. God created me; only death can hold me. Death came, but I escaped it. Iku lo kapa mi o Olorun lo seda mi o Won ni mo je gbese Ti oba fe pe laye ko gbese” translated in English to mean, “It’s only death that can take me. It’s God that created me. They said I owe debt, if you want to live long owe.’’
