Some groups have threatened to embark on nationwide protests against hunger in the country starting from August 1.

In the video, thugs were seen in a Lagos market with a van bearing a public address system and threatening residents against protesting in Lagos.

“Are you the only one hungry? Are you the only one in Nigeria? If you dare protest, get ready for what will happen,” the thugs said.

The thugs recalled how the October 2020 EndSARS nationwide protests against police brutality snowballed into violence, killings and destruction of public property.

Contacted, Gboyega Akosile, spokesperson for the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said “I think you should have stopped the thugs and asked them. Is the van from Lagos State government?,”

Mr Akosile asked Peoples Gazette to contact him via WhatsApp. He had yet to reply to a message on why the state government couldn’t stop the thugs threatening potential protesters.

Also, Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the police in Lagos, could not be reached for comments regarding thugs’ invasion of the market and threatening traders.

An automated response from Mr Hundeyin said he cannot “take calls right now.”
