NSCDC warns hoodlums against disrupting Ogun LG poll, deploys 3,150 officials

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command, has warned any individual or group planning to disrupt the ongoing local government elections in the state to desist forthwith.
The state NSCDC Commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, gave the warning during an interview in Abeokuta on Saturday, as the council elections kicked off across the state.
The state Independent Electoral Commission fixed November 16 for the conduct of the elections in the 20 local government areas, comprising 236 wards in the state.
Ms Ekundayo warned miscreants, allegedly planning to disrupt the peaceful conduct of elections or hijack ballot boxes, to have a rethink.
The commandant said, “Anyone or group planning any mayhem will be made to face the wrath of the law.’’
She said that NSCDC had put in place security strategies to ensure law and order during the exercise.
She said, “NSCDC will ensure the safety of voters and electoral materials. About 3,150 personnel have already been deployed in the 20 LGAs and 236 political wards to ensure the security and success of the elections. I also plead with the electorate to cooperate with the process and avoid interference or taking laws into their own hands. All plans inimical and capable of inciting violence must be guarded against.’’
