The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Nentawe Yilwatda, on Monday called for peace and a sustainable economic solution to address Nigeria’s humanitarian challenges.

During the International Human Rights Commission Nigeria, One-Day Human Rights Symposium and Inauguration of New Officials, Set 2025 Agenda, to mark the 2024 Universal Celebration of Human Rights Day, Mr Yilwatda shared his views on ways to address humanitarian problems.

Mr Yilwatda stated that Nigeria’s remarkable diversity in terms of religion and ethnicity, however noted that despite the diversity, Nigerians face common problems which he called “problem of humanity.”

The minister explained that these humanitarian problems could only be solved by peace and sustainable economic solutions.

Mr Yilwatda said, “It is interesting that we are a country of much diversity in terms of religion and some ethnic diversity. We have common problem, problem of humanity and that’s all we need and no way on earth are humanitarian problems solved by humanitarian solutions, humanitarian problems require peace and sustainable economic solutions.”

Also, Mr Yilwatda acknowledged that when he was assigned the position as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction by President Bola Tinubu, the President told him to bring about human peace to his subjects.

“When I was appointed by Mr president, that was the directive he gave me, give human peace to my reforms, I know the pains Nigerians are passing through, use your ministry to give a human peace to Nigerians,” the minister said.

Mr Yilwatda pleaded with Nigerians to pray for him to carry out his duties and appreciated them.

Mr Yilwatda said, “All I ask you is pray for me that, that human peace the President wants me to give Nigerians, I should be able to do it, thank you very much.”
