An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of two men, Promise Mafimisebi, and Adewale Anifowose, in a correctional facility for alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.

Mafimisebi, 44, and Anifowose, 35, whose addresses were not provided, are charged with conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.

The Magistrate, O.A Odubayo did not take the plea of the defendants for lack of jurisdiction.

She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case until February 6 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 24, 2024, at about 3.00 p.m, at Dredging site, Addo Road, Lekki-Ajah, Lagos.

He said the defendants and others at large while armed with two AK-47 rifles unlawfully captured and detained one Azeez Olosasa against his will.

Mr Iberedem said, “They detained him in the creeks and collected a ransom of N42 million from his family members. The defendants also robbed him of his gold necklace valued at N25 million, a gold hand chain worth N11.8 million, and two gold rings worth N3.4 million. The total amount of personal items stolen from the complainant is N40.2 million.’’

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 2 and 3 of the Kidnapping Prohibition Law, 2017 of Lagos State.

He said the offences also contravened Sections 297(2)(a)(b) and 299  of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 2 of the Kidnapping Prohibition Law stipulates life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of kidnapping. Also, Section 3 of the same law stipulates 20 years jail term for anyone found guilty of conspiring to kidnap someone.
