Panic, sweat as newly-deployed Lagos-Ibadan train suffers air conditioning failure

Some passengers travelling between Lagos and Ibadan on the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s train service lamented over intense heat after the air conditioning system developed a fault.
This comes barely two weeks after the newly-deployed train intended to reduce congestion on the expressway commenced operations on the standard gauge railway from Lagos to Ibadan.
Though the take-off time and place is unclear, the timetable for Tuesday to Friday operations, according to a statement issued by the corporation had said “Lagos to Ibadan at 8:00 a.m. from Mobolaji Johnson Station at Alagomeji Ebute – Meta Lagos.
Also, the train will take off from Ibadan to Lagos at 8:00 a.m. from Obafemi Awolowo Station at Moniya.
“The train will take off from Lagos to Ibadan at 4:00 p.m. from Mobolaji Johnson Station Alagomeji, while from Ibadan to Lagos at 4:00 p.m. from Obafemi Awolowo Station at Moniya.,” it further stated.
However, a video shared by Naija Viralz on Twitter saw passengers aboard the train lamenting about the faulty air conditioning system.
A passenger was heard grumbling that the train was newly commissioned days earlier, just as another cried out over intense heat.
“Train of how many days? So our AC has…,” the passenger said as others tried to open the windows for ventilation.
However, The Gazette’s efforts to reach the Lagos office of the NRC proved abortive.
President Muhammdu Buhari on June 10, formally commissioned the $1.5 billion 157 kilometres Lagos—Ibadan standard gauge railway line which is “the first modern double track standard gauge railway in West Africa.”
