Military recorded significant drop in security threats in Kaduna: GOC
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso said its ‘area of responsibility (AOR)’ has witnessed a significant drop in security threats.
Mr Saraso, the commander of Sector 1 Operations Fansan Yamma, stated this at a week-long Leadership Awareness and Development Course 11/2025 for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) in 1 Division Area of Responsibilities on Monday in Kaduna.
He said the division had embarked on robust operations, which have yielded successes “leading to a marked decline in security incidents in our area of responsibility”. He also acknowledged the efforts of other sister agencies.
“Our troops will continue to dominate all threat areas to guarantee safety and security to all Nigerians,” he added.
The GOC said that the efforts and investments committed to organising the seminar indicate the premium the chief of army staff placed on quality leadership by SNCOS in the Nigerian Army.
He said the development course was designed to equip the SNCOs of the Nigerian Army (NA) with the skills and mindset needed to better protect and preserve its cherished image.
The GOC added that the course was structured to cover a leadership framework, coaching and mentoring, social media and implications, customs, ethics, and traditions.
According to him, other areas are conflict management, team building, teamwork, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, the constitution, and the armed forces.
The commander appreciated the chief of army staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for approving and providing the necessary logistics for the smooth conduct of the course.
He urged the participants to seize the platform to share their experiences and exchange ideas.
Also, the special guest of honour, the director-general of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, retired Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab challenged the non-commissioned officers to act as real leaders.
Mr Garba said, “Nobody is going to wait for instructions to be given. Everybody is expected to be on the same page.”
