Jigawa council vaccinates 8,655 cattle, camels, chickens, others against livestock diseases
The Malam Madori Local Government Council of Jigawa State said it vaccinated about 8,655 animals in the locality.
The council’s spokesperson, Musa Muhammad, made this known during an interview in Dutse, on Wednesday.
Mr Muhammad explained that the exercise, which was part of the ongoing 2025 annual animal vaccination across the state, targeted cattle, camels, goats, sheep and chickens.
He quoted the council’s Head of Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Abdullahi Zubairu as saying that the council received 9,000 doses of vaccines from the state government for the exercise, and had successfully vaccinated 8,655 livestocks in the area.
The spokesperson also explained that cattle and camels were vaccinated against Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), goats and sheep against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), and chickens against Newcastle Disease (NCD).
According to him, in their separate remarks the leadership of the Fulani Socio-cultural Groups, Miyetti Allah and Kaltau-Hore, commended the council for supplying enough adequate vaccines for the exercise.
They noted that the exercise would go a long way in improving animal health, thereby ensuring the production and consumption of safe meat and milk in the locality, state and beyond.
The Jigawa State government had earlier announced plans to vaccinate more than 950,000 livestock in the ongoing annual animal vaccination campaign.
